La mission de confiner et documenter cette anomalie a été déléguée au Département des Recommandations Péremptoires. Les opérations nécessaires pour limiter efficacement les propriétés mémétiques de SCP-8808 impliquent le maintien sous contrôle de toutes les informations qui lui sont relatives et la manipulation de la mémoire des membres du personnel et des objets sapiens confinés dans les installations sécurisées touchées par l'anomalie. Le Comité d'Éthique approuve d'avance toutes ces opérations, de façon à ce qu'il n'y ait pas besoin d'obtenir systématiquement son approbation.

Des vecteurs cognitifs doivent être disposés sur les nombreuses surfaces à l'intérieur des sites touchés par l'anomalie, à raison d'au moins un sur chaque paroi intérieure de chaque pièce, en incluant les plafonds et les sols. En ce qui concerne les espaces plus vastes ou plus complexes, des vecteurs supplémentaires doivent être utilisés, sous réserve de l'appréciation des agents affectés à cette tâche. De plus, des messages subliminaux doivent être insérés dans chaque document officiel ainsi que dans les supports de lecture fournis au personnel et aux anomalies jusqu'à ce que l'occurrence de SCP-8808 prenne fin. Les instances touchées par l'anomalie doivent être éliminées par incinération acroamatique.

À l'heure actuelle, SCP-8808 n'est toujours pas confiné. Néanmoins, les opérations du département ont permis de réduire l'incidence des effets de l'anomalie d'environ 75 %. Conformément aux prévisions, le degré moyen de coopération des anomalies sapientes a diminué au cours des dernières analyses comportementales.

L'étude de SCP-8808 était précédemment une mission du Département des Enquêtes Internes. L'étude portait à l'origine sur une vague d'événements impliquant l'élimination non autorisée de plusieurs anomalies sapientes alors qu'elles étaient confinées. Ces anomalies, ainsi que leurs effets personnels, ont disparu spontanément de leur espace de vie et ont été retrouvées à l'extérieur des installations sécurisées où elles étaient confinées, neutralisées ou détruites par un violent traumatisme contondant.

Les enregistrements de vidéosurveillance et les rapports des témoins oculaires concernant ces événements ont été difficiles à recouper. Le personnel de sécurité évoquait unanimement des dysfonctionnements des équipements avant et pendant les événements, empêchant de surveiller et d'accéder aux zones de confinement des anomalies concernées. Cette situation a donné lieu à la propagation de rumeurs à propos de sabotages internes et autres théories conspiratoires, entraînant une baisse du moral général, de la méfiance entre les départements et une chute de l'efficacité moyenne du personnel. Par conséquent, le Département des Recommandations Péremptoires a été invité à prendre la situation en charge et à proposer des mesures visant à améliorer la qualité de vie au sein des sites concernés.

Des informations supplémentaires concernant l'anomalie ont pu être obtenues suite à plusieurs thérapies de régression temporelle effectuées sur le personnel en poste à l'extérieur des installations lors du décès des individus touchés par l'anomalie.

SCP-8808 est la désignation d'un phénomène mémétique contagieux caractérisé par une forme-idée psychogénétique.¹ L'anomalie se propage par le biais d'une croyance persistante mais mal définie en son existence, entretenue par de nombreuses anomalies sapientes et membres du personnel de Classe D répartis dans l'ensemble des installations sécurisées de la Fondation. Il est probable que SCP-8808 soit né d'une rumeur anodine évoquant l'existence d'une cellule de confinement plus "agréable", accessible uniquement à condition de bien se comporter. Cette rumeur suppose notamment que cette cellule dispose d'un patio ou d'une grande baie vitrée, deux aménagements inexistants sur l'ensemble des cellules des installations de la Fondation. Néanmoins, la croyance tenace en l'existence d'une "chambre avec vue panoramique" ne cesse de se répandre, à un rythme rendu impossible à mesurer en raison des réserves du département à discuter de SCP-8808 avec des membres du personnel.²

SCP-8808 est capable de contaminer toute forme de vie sapiente capable de visualiser approximativement sa structure mémétique et de ressentir le désir, l'envie et les émotions qui y sont associées. Le recours au traitement amnésique chez les individus ayant connaissance de la forme-pensée s'est avéré inefficace pour empêcher les matérialisations de SCP-8808, lesquelles surviennent sans suivre de modèle prévisible. L'anomalie trouve son origine métaconceptuelle dans le subconscient et persiste dans l'esprit de façon entièrement dissociée de la mémoire.

Étant donné les grandes différences existant parmi les nombreuses constructions mentales créées par l'ensemble des individus ayant déjà songé à quoi ressemblerait leur lieu de vie "idéal", les matérialisations de SCP-8808 forment le plus souvent un mélange d'éléments inexploitables, caractérisé par des espaces présentant un ameublement incohérent ou une configuration non euclidienne, ainsi que par l'absence de certains utilitaires indispensables comme des câbles électriques, des luminaires, des murs et des embrasures de porte. Les matérialisations de SCP-8808 comportent toujours un balcon, un patio et/ou des fenêtres allant du sol jusqu'au plafond, même si aucune façade de la pièce ne donne vers l'extérieur.

La plupart des individus ne se représentant pas eux-mêmes ni leur entourage dans ce type d'imagerie mentale, la formation de SCP-8808 dans le monde physique est généralement fatale pour les individus situés à l'emplacement de la matérialisation. L'anomalie comprime la matière existante à travers une singularité extradimensionnelle suite à une chute instantanée de Humes quelques instants avant que ne se produise la matérialisation. Les victimes sont alors repoussées dans l'espace ouvert contenant "une vue panoramique" le plus proche d'eux afin de satisfaire d'un point de vue ontologique les exigences posées par les idées que l'anomalie affecte.

Les matérialisations se dissipent peu de temps après leur apparition.

Le 13/05/2024, des membres du personnel de sécurité de la Fondation ont trouvé des viscères, reconnues comme provenant du corps du Dr Osmond J. Greene, chef de projet au Site-17, comprimées dans un joint situé à l'intersection de deux murs, au niveau du bureau de ce dernier. Le Dr Greene n'avait aucun lien avec le phénomène SCP-8808, ni avec les individus qui en ont été victimes. Selon ses notes personnelles, ce dernier convoitait apparemment une promotion importante, au motif qu'elle lui permettrait d'obtenir un "plus grand coin bureau". Il est à noter que la Fondation ne fournit aucun bureau correspondant à cette description. Le confinement de SCP-8808 est désormais une priorité majeure. La classe de SCP-8808 a été élevée à Keter-Samadhi.³
